The rotator cuff is really a group of muscle, ligaments and tendons in your shoulder that essentially hold everything in place and stop your arm popping out of its socket when you raise your arm above your head. There are two major causes of a rotator cuff tear in the shoulder and they are, one; extreme trauma, like a huge fall or sustaining and injury to your shoulder. The second is due to age, in some cases the rotator cuff just type of falls apart as a result of regular wear and tear on the body.
